THE Midlands Province is in full preparation mode ahead of the Munhumutapa Day commemorations, scheduled for September 15.
Provincial leadership has confirmed that arrangements for the event are now at an advanced stage, with all indications pointing towards a successful celebration.
Munhumutapa Day, which also coincides with His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s birthday, is set to be marked with various cultural and commemorative activities.
The ZANU-PF Midlands provincial leadership has expressed satisfaction with the progress made thus far, noting that the province is ready to host a memorable event.
“We are on full throttle in mobilizing people for the Munhumutapa day celebrations. In terms of preparations, we are now at 90 %. The atmosphere is good. We cordially invite everyone to come,” ZANU PF Midlands Provincial Chairperson, Cde Edson Chiherenge said.
The Munhumutapa Day will also coincide with the commissioning of the US$29 million Midlands Park accommodation facilities, which will help in reducing the housing backlog in line with the dictates of the National Development Strategy One.
“The flats have been completed and are ready for occupation,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said.
Munhumutapa Day is a brain-child of the ZANU PF Youth League and is named after the Mutapa Empire pre-colonial ruler.
The day aims to link the yesteryear progress of Madzimbahwe to the advancement being experienced under the able leadership of President Mnangagwa as the country gravitates towards the attainment of Vision 2030.
