THE newly established Matikiti Village Business Unit (VBU) in Gokwe North District has become operational, bringing renewed hope to more than 50 families who have commenced horticultural projects at the site.

The Matikiti VBU is one of 98 such projects launched in Gokwe North as part of a broader rural development initiative that gained momentum following the district’s hosting of this year’s Independence Day celebrations.

Villagers have embarked on a large-scale horticultural programme at the site, with optimism high that the initiative will significantly uplift their standards of living.

“We are very happy for this development. We are now occupied throughout the year through this garden. We look forward to feeding our families from the farm produce,” a villager said.

The government has adopted deliberate efforts to upgrade the livelihoods of previously marginalised communities in line with the inclusive development approach.

“The attainment of a prosperous and empowered upper-middle-income society earlier than 2030 is achievable. I urge community leaders and farmers to fully embrace and safeguard the transformative infrastructure delivered by the Second Republic under the stewardship of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“Theft and vandalism of public infrastructure is an offence punishable in our courts of law, and all culprits will face the full wrath of the law without fear or favour,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube warned.

The establishment of the Village Business Unit is part of the rural industrialisation efforts being implemented by the Second Republic, with the aim of improving livelihoods in previously marginalised communities as the country gravitates towards the attainment of Vision 2030.
