Deployment of border tourism officers gets PSC nod

Government is confident the deployment of dedicated tourism officers at all the country’s major ports of entry will be completed this year.

The move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the visitor experience and drive growth in the sector.

A pilot programme dubbed “Meet and Greet” saw government officials and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority personnel being deployed at major entry points to welcome visitors during the festive season.

Building on this success, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbra Rwodzi, told ZBC News in Victoria Falls that the Public Service Commission has approved the deployment of permanent officers.

“In 2025, we’re going to do that. So we’ve been waiting as you know that we’ve been a new ministry on our own through PSC. There’s a process that has to be done to ask for more officers to be on board and to give a structure to PSC to approve it. Now it’s all approved and I’m sure through ZTA we’ll have officers in 2025 in every port of entry of the country, we need that.”

Experts believe this initiative, combined with ongoing infrastructure development and targeted marketing campaigns, will significantly enhance Zimbabwe’s appeal to travelers worldwide.

Renowned for its stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and vibrant culture, Zimbabwe is actively working to reclaim its position as a premier African safari destination.
