THE Extraordinary SADC Troika is currently underway at the New Parliament Building in Mount Hampden with the volatile situation in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, expected to take centre stage during the discussions.
The President is Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr Hussein Mwinyi is chairing the meeting on behalf of Dr Samia Hassan, the President of the Republic of Tanzania and Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics Defence and Security Cooperation.
Dr Mwinyi said the meeting focuses on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo which continues to witness unrest. He highlighted that some armed groups are still killing people and making it difficult for humanitarian aid to reach some places.
SADC Executive Secretary Mr Elias Magosi added that the overall security and humanitarian situation in the DRC requires constant monitoring and vigilance.
