THE Second Republic’s target of universal health coverage is on course with more health facilities being established through devolution funds in Binga District of Matabeleland North Province

Vision 2030 envisages an affordable and efficient health delivery system, hence initiatives such as the construction of new health centres like Zambezi Clinic under Chief Saba in Binga which is now awaiting commissioning.

Other health related projects being implemented in Binga district through devolution funds are Sinamusanga, Kalungwizi and Binga Centre.

Another health facility, Malaliya clinic has since been commissioned.

“We are happy because of the clinic, when its opens, it is going to assist us a lot, we will no longer be walking more than about 14 kilometres to Siansundu Clinic,” said one of the community members.

Another said, “This will also ensure access to critical medication for high blood pressure, ART and others.”

“Child mortality rate will certainly go down with a clinic at our door steps. We appreciate what the government has done for us,” added a community member.

Zambezi Clinic consists of male and female wards, pharmacy, ante-natal ward, sluice room, waiting area as well as duty, consultation and treatment rooms.

“We are grateful to the government for availing funds through devolution funds. This certainly easies the burden on the rural district council. The clinic is complete and will be commissioned anytime this year,” said Councillor Tobias Munsaka of Binga Rural District Council Ward 9.

Zambezi Clinic has a catchment area of more than four villages and is expected to help in combating malaria, which is prone in the district.
