Mutoko benefits from food distribution

Story by Jerold Sasa

GOVERNMENT is continuing with the distribution of food under the Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy programme in Mashonaland East province with Mutoko being the latest district to benefit.

The villagers from Ward 20 of Mutoko District who received food aid at Mutoko Centre this Wednesday and Thursday are excited about the programme which is expected to cushion them against the effects of the El Nino-induced drought.

“We thank the government for remembering us at this important period when we are all suffering from drought,” said a villager.

Another said, “We did not know how we were going to survive, but we are very excited as we are no longer going to suffer from hunger.”

The government said no one will die of hunger as there is enough food for the people.

“No one will die of hunger in line with what the President has always been saying that we leave no one and no place behind,” said Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi.

The government this month rolled out the food deficit mitigation strategy programme which has seen thousands of households benefitting.
