PEACE and unity among African nations dominated discussions when King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini of the Zulu Kingdom and King Ndamase Ndamase of AmaMpondo AseMnyandeni in South Africa met President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare on Tuesday.

The royal delegation, accompanied by other traditional leaders, requested the meeting to discuss the role of traditional leadership in promoting peace and strengthening relations between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Speaking after the meeting, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, said the discussions centred on addressing tensions in parts of South Africa and advancing regional peace.
“They are from the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, areas where there has been tension. As kings, they believe they have a role to play, and they respect President Mnangagwa as a regional leader and liberation fighter. They wanted to deliver their message directly. It was a cordial meeting that looked at the future of the two countries and how traditional leadership can help address post-colonial challenges. They requested a personal audience with the President, and it was a very successful meeting.”

Speaking through his Prime Minister, Inkosi Phatisizwe Chiliza, King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini thanked President Mnangagwa for hosting the delegation and reaffirmed their commitment to peace.
“We want to thank the President of Zimbabwe and his delegation. We are here to ensure there is peace and harmony between our two nations and to support the King’s vision of promoting peace.”

Speaking on behalf of King Ndamase Ndamase, Chief Ndamase said the visit had strengthened relations between the traditional leadership of the two countries.
“Our visit to Zimbabwe was successful, and we received a warm welcome. The bond between the traditional leadership of Zimbabwe and South Africa will help promote peace and harmony on the African continent.”

African leaders have consistently identified peace and stability as essential foundations for sustainable development across the continent.
