THE Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union (ZTTU) is hosting an international coaching course, at Prince Edward School in Harare to capacitate development coaches.
The initiative is a significant step towards developing table tennis in the country to world-class levels, empowering coaches with cutting-edge knowledge and skills to nurture talent from grassroots to elite level.
The coaching course also marks a pivotal moment in the union’s quest to produce globally competitive players.
“We have identified potential coaches who are going to be qualified to spearhead the program of our sports development. One of the things we have realised is that there is a lot of talent, especially in the youngsters but there is technical personnel to train them,” said the Zimbabwe Table Tennis team technical director, Richard Shumba.
The five-day coaching course is designed to equip participants with the latest science-based approaches to table tennis coaching, focusing on theoretical and practical aspects.
The comprehensive curriculum covers a range of topics, including Biomechanics, Physiology, Sports psychology, Coaching methodology, Training planning and Para table tennis coaching.
Meanwhile, the technical team is set to come up with a list of players who will take part at the World Youth Championship qualifiers.
The under-19 team will get into camp this Saturday in preparation for the World Youth Championship qualifiers to be staged between the 15th and the 21st of July in Botswana.
