CHINA – ZIMBABWE is taking part in the Ministerial Coordination Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the 4th China Africa Economic and Trade Expo aimed at deepening cooperation between China and African countries.
This follows the 2024 Forum on China Africa Cooperation held in Beijing, China last year and attended by Heads of State and Government, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, which deliberated on enhancing cooperation between China and Africa for sustainable development.
This week, the Chinese City of Changsha is hosting the Ministerial Coordination Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to discuss outcomes of the summit, while celebrating 25 years of FOCAC.
The 4th China Africa Economic and Trade Expo will also run concurrently where member states are exchanging knowledge aimed at boosting countries’ economic activities.
Ahead of the meeting set to start this Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira met with the Chairperson of the International Cooperation Department of China, Mr Chen Xiaodong.
“Continued cooperation between China and Africa is pushing development between and amongst our countries and with FOCAC celebrating 25 years of existence this year it is very important that ministers and countries come together and discuss ways of shaping the development path of our people,” Mr Xiaodong said.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record stating that the country seeks to attain an upper-middle-income society by 2030, with forums such as FOCAC and the China Africa Economic and Trade expo feeding into the drive.
