MISS Universe Zimbabwe Board Chairperson Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga has been appointed to the judging panel of the 74th Miss Universe competition.

Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga becomes the first Zimbabwean in history to serve as a Miss Universe judge.

In a statement, the Miss Universe organisation described the appointment as a significant step forward for Zimbabwe’s presence in global arts, culture, and leadership.

Reacting to the appointment, Colonel Chiwenga said she is honoured to represent Zimbabwe on such a prestigious stage.

“This responsibility is bigger than myself. It reflects Zimbabwe’s return to global participation and the world’s recognition of our standard. Judging at Miss Universe requires fairness, cultural sensitivity and a deep appreciation of what modern womanhood represents. I am humbled to contribute to that process,” she said.

A multilingual academic and accomplished leader, Colonel Chiwenga brings a formidable résumé to the panel, including military excellence, global peacekeeping and award-winning entrepreneurship.

Her work in community empowerment, free education, rural healthcare, and sustainable development has earned her respect both at home and abroad.

This milestone comes as Zimbabwe continues its resurgence in the international pageant scene, just three years after returning from a 22-year absence under the guidance of National Director Tendai Hunda.

Colonel Chiwenga’s appointment coincides with the start of this year’s competition, which opened Wednesday with the National Costume Show and the Preliminary Round ahead of the grand finale on November 21 in Bangkok.

As the world looks toward the crowning moment in Bangkok, Colonel Chiwenga’s historic appointment not only showcases Zimbabwean excellence but also highlights Africa’s growing influence in global pageantry.
