ZIMBABWE Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) Technical Operator and marathon enthusiast, Nyasha Priviledge Marira has departed for Durban, South Africa, where she will participate in her third Comrades Marathon this Sunday.
Marira, who has previously secured two medals in the prestigious ultra-marathon, is hopeful of achieving a personal best time as she joins thousands of athletes from around the world to tackle the gruelling 90-kilometre course.
“I’m expecting a better finish this year, having already secured two medals in previous attempts,” she said.
For Marira, long-distance running has become more than just a sport it has become a transformative journey.
The annual Comrades Marathon is regarded as one of the most demanding long-distance races in the world, attracting elite and amateur runners alike.
It continues to inspire personal endurance and national pride, with Zimbabwean athletes consistently taking part.
“The Comrades Marathon has helped me stay fit and focused, both on and off the job. My goal is to beat my personal best, and I’ve been training tirelessly for this challenge,” Mugove madziyire said.
“Last year was a learning experience. I have worked hard to build on that and I’m looking forward to seeing how this year’s training pays off,” Simbarashe Dibhula said.
One first-time competitor also expressed excitement, saying:
“I have heard so much about the Comrades Marathon, and I am thrilled to finally challenge myself,” Absolom Goredema said.
Zimbabwe has a proud legacy at the Comrades Marathon, most notably through legendary athlete Stephen Muzhingi, who won the race three times consecutively in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
As Marira represents both her profession and country, her participation adds to the growing list of Zimbabweans showcasing resilience and sporting excellence on the international stage.
