ZANU PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs and President of the Senate, Cde Mabel Chinomona, has applauded the government under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa for its commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women.

In a statement to mark International Women’s Day and Women’s Month, Cde Chinomona said women should support each other’s efforts in their communities and work together to build an equitable society.

Cde Chinomona commended the government for implementing initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and gender equality, describing the initiatives as important steps towards women’s empowerment and economic emancipation.

She called for collective responsibility in promoting gender equality, urging stakeholders to work together to dismantle barriers, promote justice and ensure economic opportunities for all women and girls.

Cde Chinomona also highlighted the Women’s League’s commitment to empowering women through various projects, including poultry farming, piggery, sewing clubs and savings and credit schemes commonly known as SACCOs or Mikando.

She commended the government for initiatives aimed at eliminating gender-based violence, ending child marriages and addressing drug and substance abuse, which remain major barriers to women’s empowerment and economic emancipation.
