ZANU PF has won the Nkulumane parliamentary by-election, reclaiming the Bulawayo constituency for the first time in more than two decades and marking a significant political shift in an area long regarded as an opposition stronghold.
The ruling party’s candidate, Cde Freedom Murechu, secured 3 416 votes, comfortably ahead of independent candidate Rodney Jele, who garnered 745 votes. The remaining candidates trailed further behind.
The result was formally announced by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Nkulumane Constituency Elections Officer, Mrs Sithembiso Khuphe, following the completion of the counting process.
The by-election was held to fill a vacancy left by the late Honourable Desire Moyo, who died in a road traffic accident in October.
