THE ruling ZANU PF has embarked on extensive public consultations on the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, aimed at sensitising members on the proposed law’s objectives and key provisions.
A Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) Mobilisation Strategy Virtual Workshop was held at the party headquarters this Sunday, connecting seven provinces as part of efforts to kick-start the consultation process.
The workshop was chaired by ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, who outlined the party’s strategy ahead of nationwide engagements.
“We are adding voice multipliers to ensure that Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill is not just a ZANU PF Resolution 1 Bill but a national law that will help Zimbabweans, and we have deployed multiple strategies ahead of the public consultations,” he said.
ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, briefed PCC members on the key tenets of the proposed amendment, providing a legal interpretation of its scope and implications.
“We were explaining why we are not going to be needing a referendum because we are not touching Section 91 of the Constitution but rather we are extending the electoral cycle,” he said.
The Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill was gazetted on February 17, following Cabinet approval seven days earlier. The gazetting triggered a 90-day public consultation period, after which the Bill will proceed to its First Reading before Parliament.
The mobilisation exercise marks the beginning of structured engagements by the ruling party as it seeks to build consensus and awareness around the proposed constitutional changes.
