PRESIDENT Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged young people to take a leading role in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation by embracing innovation and positioning themselves in emerging sectors, particularly the digital economy.
Speaking at the burial of National Hero Simon Brian Bere at the National Heroes Acre on Monday, the Head of State said youths must rise as entrepreneurs and employers, shaping the country’s future.
“To the young people, your political ground is now the digital economy, mining, tourism, construction sectors and other modern fields of human endeavour. Never shy away from challenges and opportunities before you. Embrace innovation. Be the employers and entrepreneurs that drive our nation forward,” he said.
President Mnangagwa also paid tribute to women, describing them as central to economic stability through their role in households and small to medium enterprises.
“To our women who sustain the home and labour force, they support the economy through small and medium enterprises; they are the backbone of the economy,” he said.
He further called on war veterans to embed their experience within communities by mentoring younger generations and supporting national development, while urging the security sector to uphold discipline, humility and dedication in service to the nation.
“Equally, I challenge men and women of the security sector to continue wholeheartedly serving our nation with humility and courage. We have an obligation to deliver life-transforming results that benefit all our people,” he said.
The President emphasised that patriotism, unity and hard work must guide Zimbabwe’s development trajectory, as the country consolidates its economic gains.
He described the late Air Commodore Bere as a dedicated cadre whose service reflected the discipline and commitment that underpinned both the liberation struggle and post-independence nation-building.
