TWO young Zimbabweans, Tadiwanashe Mtetwa and Takunda Chitope, are set to represent Zimbabwe this month at the Miss and Mr Tourism Africa International Pageant, showcasing how culture, confidence, and purpose are driving the country’s new generation of tourism ambassadors.
From the mountains of Chimanimani to the corridors of continental pageantry, 20-year-old Mtetwa, a University of Zimbabwe student, will carry the country’s flag at the Miss Tourism Africa competition set for the 31st of this month in Nigeria.
“Chimanimani shaped my love for culture and the environment because I grew up surrounded by people who take their culture seriously and who conserve their environment. I was inspired by the beauty around me,” she said.
As she steps on the continental stage, Tadiwanashe will use the platform to showcase the beauty of the country through her initiative: ‘Earthcare Champions,’ to promote tree planting, environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.
“Through Earthcare Champions, we are creating a greener and more sustainable environment for everyone.”
Meanwhile, Chitope will compete in the Mr Tourism Africa International category.
“Representing Zimbabwe allows me to share my advocacy on a continental and international stage. My advocacy focuses on men’s mental health and promoting the youth, creating employment and a sustainable life for them. I have started a foundation called the Grail Foundation, which focuses on men’s mental health and the creation of employment,” Chitope said.
Both contestants concurred that preparation involves research, community engagement, and outreach programmes from visiting schools to building collaborations with youth organisations, and they are ready to conquer the continent.
