27-year-old Talent Priviledge Sibanda from Mberengwa who strangled her new born baby before burying the body in a shallow grave will serve two years behind bars after she was convicted of infanticide.
She was arraigned before the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court facing infanticide charges.
Facts are that Sibanda separated with her husband in 2023 before reuniting in February this year whilst she was pregnant for another man.
On the 27th of October 2024 Sibanda gave birth to a baby girl whilst she was alone.
She then strangled the baby before burying it in a shallow grave in a field a few metres from her home.
The matter came to light when Sibanda’s niece noticed that she was no longer pregnant and had no baby.
The niece suspected Sibanda could have killed the child and alerted the police.
Investigations carried out established that Sibanda had indeed killed the infant.
Sibanda was subsequently arrested and prosecuted.
