VICE President Colonel (Rtd) Dr Kembo Mohadi has arrived in Lusaka, Zambia, ahead of the annual Kavalamanja commemorations scheduled for this Saturday in the Luangwa District, where Zimbabwean liberation fighters who died during the struggle for independence are buried.

Upon arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Vice President Mohadi was received by Zambia’s Deputy Chief of Protocol, Brigadier General Oliver Moonde, and members of the Zimbabwean delegation led by the country’s Ambassador to Zambia, Charity Charamba, alongside senior government officials.

The Kavalamanja commemorations are held annually between March 6 and 9 at the Kavalamanja and Kakore battle sites to honour liberation fighters from Zimbabwe and Zambia who lost their lives during the armed struggle against colonial rule. Vice President Mohadi attends this year’s commemorations as the guest of honour.

Soon after his arrival, Vice President Mohadi paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Vice President, Mutale Nalumango.

Vice President Nalumango highlighted the significance of the commemorations, noting their role in preserving the shared history between the two nations.

The commemorations also provide an opportunity to reflect on the enduring bond between Zimbabwe and Zambia, as well as the wider regional solidarity that supported Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

Zimbabwe is set to mark its 46th Independence anniversary next month under the theme “Zim@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.”
