VICE President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Managua Nicaragua ahead of celebrations to mark the country’s 45th Sandinista revolution.

Vice President Chiwenga was met at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport by the country’s minister advisor to the President for International Affairs, Comrade Valdrack Jaentschke.

More than 700 guests from Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean are expected to attend the celebrations and learn more about Nicaragua and its achievements with several engagements expected to take place over the next few days.

Named after Augusto César Sandino, a Nicaraguan revolutionary who fought against US occupation in the 1920s and 1930s, the Sandinista Revolution is a significant event in Nicaraguan history that began in the 1960s and culminated in 1979.

It was a popular uprising led by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), a leftist political organisation, against the authoritarian government of Anastasio Somoza Debayle.
