A young actor from the heart of Victoria Falls, Sikhanyiso Ngwenya, is making waves in the local film industry after sharing the screen with renowned Hollywood actor Tongai Chirisa in the upcoming film, ‘Rise’.

The nine-year-old, who grew up in Victoria Falls’ Chinotimba suburb, landed a role in the film, inspired by the true story of local boxer Tobias Mupfuti who rose from humble beginnings to become a respected figure in the community and boxing world.

Ngwenya’s performance alongside Chirisa has garnered significant attention.

“I feel good to be here. I have learnt to be disciplined and honest through this act. I look forward to being part of other productions in future,” said Ngwenya.

The success story of the actor has surprised his parents.

“I have never imagined him in that space, but after watching this film, I now believe in him, he can do it. At home, he is now watching films, seeking inspiration. He can go far,” Ngwenya’s mother, Rumbidzai Chikamhi said.

“I don’t know what to say. I am running out of words, it’s just a surprise. I am very happy for him,” said the young actor’s father, Nkosinathi Ngwenya.

The film, which premiered in Victoria Falls on Friday has been lauded for its powerful message of hope, resilience, and the pursuit of dreams.
