THE Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture visited Victoria Falls on a fact-finding mission to assess the city’s cultural and sporting facilities.

During the visit, the committee was informed about the challenges faced by the city in securing land for development, which has been hindering progress in sports, recreation, arts, and culture projects.

“We are constrained by land due to several factors and this is a challenge to us considering boundaries set and the need to balance the preservation of Victoria Falls as a tourism and nature habitat,” Victoria Falls Housing and Community Services Director, Mr Brian Nyamande stated.

The legislators impressed the council on the need to tap into turning abundant culture and Victoria Falls’ tourism heritage into revenue-generation opportunities while also promoting sport.

“Providing facilities for sports, arts, recreation and culture is critical. While it is also about identifying development and economic opportunities, our young people need these as required by the Vision of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. We are here to see this for ourselves and help the people of Victoria Falls,” the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee, Honourable Farai Jere said.

The legislators also toured five priority projects being pursued in the city which include Chinotimba Stadium rehabilitation, the Drug and Substance Rehabilitation Centre, a library and community hall and a youth interaction centre.
