VENEZUELA has thrown its weight behind Zimbabwe’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), in a show of solidarity that underscores the growing alliances among nations of the Global South.
This Tuesday, Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, held a high-level meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart, Mr Yvan Gil Pinto, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The two ministers reaffirmed the historic and fraternal bond between Zimbabwe and Venezuela, describing the countries as “brotherly nations” with longstanding relations rooted in mutual support and cooperation.
Zimbabwe is set to officially launch its bid for the Security Council seat on the sidelines of the General Assembly tomorrow.
