AS the nation commemorated Father’s Day this Sunday, traditional leaders from Murewa and across Mashonaland East Province gathered at Shawanhowe Resort for an event dubbed Dare Rana Baba to celebrate fatherhood and promote the well-being of men and families.

The Dare Rana Baba brought together chiefs, village heads, community leaders, health practitioners, and residents who engaged in discussions on a wide range of issues affecting men and families in society.

Speaking during the gathering, traditional leaders emphasised the critical role fathers play in building strong families and communities. They called on men to take an active role in parenting, family development, and community leadership.

“We are very happy with this event because it has brought us together as fathers and provided a platform for us to share different experiences and challenges that affect us as men,” Chief Chikwaka said.

“We learnt a lot from this engagement, including issues relating to mental health, family values, and other social challenges affecting fathers. Such gatherings should be held regularly so that we continue interacting and learning from one another,” Chief Mangwende added.

Event organiser Ms Debra Kavande said platforms such as Dare Rana Baba provide an opportunity for men to share experiences, receive guidance, and support one another in addressing challenges affecting their lives and families.

“This event is timely as it not only celebrates fatherhood, but also raises awareness of critical health and social issues affecting families and communities.”

Participants called for similar engagements to be held regularly across the province to strengthen families, improve men’s health, and promote community development.

The event also saw fathers who attended the forum being honoured in recognition of the important role they play in nurturing families.
