THE Nyaradzo Golf Tournament attracted golfers from across Zimbabwe this weekend, providing a platform to honour departed players while promoting talent development and sports tourism in the Midlands Province.

The competition brought together professional and amateur golfers in a showcase of skill and sportsmanship, reinforcing its growing reputation as a key event on the local golfing calendar.

Participants said the tournament offered valuable opportunities to compete against experienced players and gain insights that could help improve their game.

“I am thrilled that this edition had professional golfers, which was a bonus for us because we learnt something from them. If we continue to do this yearly, I’m sure we will become a golfing nation,” a golfer said.

Another participant expressed satisfaction with his performance during the event.

“The tournament was great. I am very happy with how I played. I played a very solid three days. Any time I go into a tournament, my goal is to give myself a good chance to win going into the final round, which I did a good job of.”

Stakeholders say the tournament is contributing to the development of golf by creating opportunities for players to sharpen their skills while enhancing the profile of the sport.

Former Zimbabwe Golfers Association president, Mr Obert Dube said the event also supports the growth of sports tourism by bringing together golfers from different parts of the country.

“The tournament seeks to promote sportsmanship, talent, and tourism within Zimbabwe by offering amateur golfers the chance to compete with professionals. I want to applaud the community and stakeholders who took part in this year’s edition because it has allowed our players and club members to interact, share ideas and exchange notes towards the promotion of the sport.”

Convenor of the Nyaradzo Group Midlands Province tournament, Mr Francis Tamburai said the competition is designed to nurture future talent and create opportunities for golfers to develop their potential.

The tournament is also expected to support efforts to revive ladies’ golf, a discipline that has experienced declining participation in recent years.

Organisers believe the continued growth of the event will strengthen golf development pathways while contributing to the expansion of sports tourism in Zimbabwe.
