TEACHERS and learners from Bulawayo have applauded the government’s vacation initiative, saying they are now reaping the associated benefits.
The initiative, introduced to provide additional learning time during school holidays, has given students, especially examination classes, more time to learn and study.
“We got an opportunity to learn during the holiday and we managed to grasp a lot of knowledge and we believe we are ready to write the examinations,” a learner said.
“The vacation schools initiative was a game-changer because learners were able to get enough time with their teachers. In terms of preparations for examinations, I think we are above 90 percent,” a teacher weighed in.
Parents, especially those of primary school-going children, are, however, concerned about their children’s safety when crossing busy roads during peak hours.
“Schools have opened, but we are concerned about our children’s safety when crossing these busy roads to school. So what we do is accompany them every morning and assist them to cross to school,” a parent said.
“You cannot let these children go alone to school, we need to help them cross when they are going to school and back,” another added.
The government continues to offer quality education with emphasis on the impartation of practical skills to learners.
