SOUTHERN Rocks are the kings of domestic cricket after completing a remarkable cup double with an eight-wicket victory over Mega Mountaineers in the Pro50 Championship final at Masvingo Sports Club this Saturday.

Fresh from lifting the Logan Cup, Southern Rocks delivered another commanding performance on home soil, chasing down 231 to seal a sensational double.

Asked to hunt 231, Rocks made light work of the target, with Innocent Kaia producing a composed unbeaten 93 off 97 balls to anchor the innings.

Opener Matthew Campbell laid the foundation with a solid 67, while Panashe Taruvinga provided calm support as Rocks cruised to 187 for one after 34 overs. With just 44 runs needed from 96 balls, rain clouds threatened but failed to derail the hosts’ march to victory.

Earlier, the Rocks bowling attack set the tone. Shelton Mazvitorera and Matthew Campbell claimed three wickets apiece, while Roy Kaia applied pressure with tight off-spin to restrict Mountaineers to 230 in 49.2 overs.

Joylord Gumbie offered the only notable resistance with a patient 51 as the defending champions succumbed under scoreboard pressure.

Southern Rocks had topped the Pro50 standings with 12 points from eight matches, finishing one point ahead of the Mountaineers, and capped their dominant campaign with a convincing final victory.
