SCOTTLAND FC have etched their name into Zimbabwean football history after being crowned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions in their debut season, an extraordinary achievement that places them alongside Black Rhinos, who last accomplished the feat in 1984.
The Mabvuku-based side sealed the title in emphatic style with a 5-1 victory over Kwekwe United at Ascot Stadium in Gweru on Sunday, a result that confirmed their unassailable lead at the top of the log.
In a match that turned into a celebration of dominance, Khama Billiat opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a deft lob that beat goalkeeper Elton Nechiware, breaking Kwekwe United’s early resistance. Minutes later, Tymon Machope doubled the advantage, sending Scottland fans into jubilation as the heavens opened in poetic fashion at the final whistle.
Further goals in the second half sealed a commanding victory and a memorable conclusion to a dream debut campaign.
For head coach Tonderai Ndiraya, the triumph marks a rare personal milestone — winning back-to-back Premier League titles with two different clubs, having guided Simba Bhora to glory last season before joining Scottland.
Meanwhile, Dynamos edged Bikita Minerals 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium, a crucial result that lifted them out of the relegation zone. The Harare giants now sit 13th on 37 points but remain in danger, with tough fixtures against Yadah and FC Platinum still to come.
Scottland’s fairytale season will be remembered as one that revived community pride in Mabvuku and rekindled the spirit of possibility within Zimbabwean football, a reminder that dreams, backed by discipline and vision, can defy the odds.
