President Emmerson Mnangagwa is at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT)’s 16th graduation ceremony at the institution’s Harare campus.
On arrival, the President and Chancellor of HIT was welcomed by Vice Chancellor, Professor Quinton Kanhukamwe, and the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Dr Frederick Shava, among other dignitaries.
Before the ceremony, President Mnangagwa toured a range of innovative projects developed by students, including the Future Mobility Urban Mass Transportation System, a modern tram initiative designed to provide efficient urban transit solutions.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Professor Kanhukamwe congratulated President Mnangagwa on the successful completion of his tenure as SADC Chairperson.
He also highlighted HIT’s commitment to digital transformation, noting that the institution integrated Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence modules across all degree programmes seven years ago, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the digital economy.
Professor Kanhukamwe further revealed that HIT is currently realigning its strategic plan with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), positioning the institution as a centre of excellence in applied research and innovation, in line with national priorities.
