PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha, where he joins fellow Heads of State and Government for the official opening of the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2), which begins this Tuesday.
The high-level summit, organised under the auspices of the United Nations, is centred on advancing sustainable social development and ensuring that no one is left behind.
The event has drawn over 8 000 delegates from UN member states, including world leaders, international organisations, civil society representatives, and academics.
President Mnangagwa is expected to deliver a statement during the official opening. A round table meeting focusing on three pillars of social development, poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all and social inclusion will be held later this Tuesday.
The Doha summit is a follow up to the first summit which was held in Copenhagen in 1995 where 10 commitments towards poverty eradication and improving livelihoods were laid down .
