President Emmerson Mnangagwa has applauded the church for its commitment towards modernising, industrialising and growing the country’s economy.
The President was represented by the Minister of Defence, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, who is also the ZANU PF National Chairperson, at the Gospel of God International 1932 annual convention in the Gandanzara area of Rusape this Monday.
In his message, the President applauded the church’s commitment to championing the modernisation and industrialisation agenda.
“Let us as a nation continue to draw inspiration from Psalm 133 verse 1 which says, ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity’. Deriving instructive lessons from Baba Johanne’s teachings, the church is applauded for its commitment to contribute to modernising, industrialising and growing our economy. Jeremiah 29 verse 7 says in summary, we must continue to seek peace and prosperity for our nation because as our nation prospers, we too shall prosper,” he said.
The rallying call is for Zimbabweans to be masters of their destiny.
“Hard honest work, production and productivity are an integral part of Christian work. Proverbs 14 verse 23 says, ‘All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty’. In singleness of purpose and working with the Second Republic, the church should continue to entrench these values across its congregants towards the collective good of our country.
“Together, let us make Zimbabwe strong. This is how we should honour our forebears. Their sweat, suffering and blood during the protracted war of liberation struggle resulted in us enjoying our independence, freedom and integrity as a nation,” added the President.
He also reminded citizens of the need to fight drug and substance abuse which has become a menace among youths.
“Equally, help cultivate Christian, moral and ethical values, build strong families and promote community cohesion. Let us join hands in fighting social ills such as drug and substance abuse affecting our communities.”
Government outlined key milestones which have been attained in various sectors of the economy, urging the church to collaborate with the ruling ZANU PF party in nation-building.
