All systems go for Mkoba North by-elections

Story by Tafara Chikumira

ALL is set for the Mkoba North constituency by-election in Gweru, with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and law enforcement agents having deployed key staff and material to ensure a smooth process.

ZEC Midlands Provincial Elections Officer Ms Sekai Chipise told the ZBC News that everything is now in place for the plebiscite set for this Saturday.

“I am very glad to say that we have just managed to send all our material to the polling centres for voting to commence well. We have also managed to train all the Polling Officers and deployed them well on time.

I am also glad to announce that the security details have since been deployed. I want to take this opportunity to thank the people of Mkoba North Constituency for showing political maturity by observing peace. We hope this will continue as we hold our elections tomorrow,” she said.

The Mkoba North constituency seat was left vacant after the recall of Citizens Coalition for Change legislator Amos Chibaya by the party’s interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.

Saturday will also see five other National Assembly by-elections being held in Zvimba East, Chegutu West, Goromonzi South, Seke and Pelandaba Tshabalala constituencies.
