Matabeleland North province will roll out the food distribution programme this Friday in Nyamandlovu, as the government works round the clock to ensure no one dies of hunger after a lean summer cropping season.
With President Emmerson Mnangagwa assuring the nation that no citizen of Zimbabwe will go hungry, Matabeleland North province has received its allocation that will cater for families and the traditional leader’s Isiphala SeNkosi/Zunde raMambo programmes.
In a media briefing this Thursday, Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Richard Moyo gave an insight into the food distribution process.
“Matabeleland North has also not been spared in terms of hunger, but we are grateful for the intervention by the President. The food has been sent to all villages now across the province and we will be rolling out the distribution programme this Friday at Nyamandlovu GMB. All people in the database to receive food will be given food as we liaise with the Social Welfare department. A member of a family will receive 7,5kgs per month. Our first distribution will be guaranteeing a 3 months supply to all recipient families. Under the Isiphala seNkosi Programme each chief will receive 5 tonnes depending on the number of wards under their jurisdiction,” he said.
The El-Nino weather phenomenon has seen most families across the country failing to get a good harvest, resulting in food vulnerabilities.
The government has, however, moved in swiftly to ensure food supplies get to all corners of the nation.
