More than 20 people are feared dead after a bus and a haulage truck collided head-on near the Lutumba tollgate in Beitbridge this Thursday morning.
It is believed the bus driver tried to overtake another vehicle and rammed into an oncoming haulage truck.
Zimbabwe Republic Police, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident claimed 24 lives in a statement.
“24 people were killed when an Urban Connect bus carrying 65
passengers was involved in a head-on collision with an Auto Transport
haulage truck with four occupants on board,” read the statement.
“The accident occurred as the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle. The bus was travelling from Harare to Beitbridge while the truck was
travelling in the opposite direction.
“The number of injured people is yet to be established. The bodies of
the victims were taken to Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary for post
mortem while the injured are admitted to the same hospital.”
