ZIMBABWE’S sungura music fraternity is mourning the death of talented dancer and backing vocalist Barnabas Mandipota, a key member of Orchestra Mberikwazvo, who passed away after a short illness.
Affectionately known as Barna, Mandipota was celebrated for his energetic stage presence and significant contribution to the band’s live performances, earning admiration from fans across the country.
He recently performed with the group during an Easter show before missing subsequent weekend appearances due to a reported toothache.
Band leader Alick Macheso confirmed the death on his official social media platforms, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of one of our own, Barnabas Mandipota. To the Mandipota family and all those affected, may you find comfort in the Lord. More details will be shared in due course,” he said.
Mandipota’s death has sent shockwaves through the sungura fraternity, with fans and fellow artists remembering him as a dedicated performer whose passion and talent enriched the genre.
His contribution to Sungura music and his vibrant performances have left a lasting legacy within Zimbabwe’s music industry.
