THE body of one of the two people who were swept away by strong currents in the Zambezi River during a baptism ceremony on Saturday has been recovered, as search efforts continue for the second victim.

The deceased was retrieved Monday afternoon following a coordinated operation involving local authorities and river rescue teams, which have been conducting intensive searches along the affected stretch of the river near Victoria Falls.

Mr Philani Moyo, who is leading the rescue operation, confirmed that the body was found on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River.

The remains are expected to be transferred to a local mortuary for post-mortem examinations and formal identification, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.

Meanwhile, officials said the location of the second missing person has now been established, with rescue teams intensifying efforts to recover the body.
