CHIREDZI -TWO serial armed robbers from Beitbridge have been jailed for 144 years each after being convicted of three cases of armed robbery.
Gift Maphosa aged 36 and Mpokiseng Dube aged 27 each received 48 years per count for three armed robberies committed in December last year.
The duo appeared at the Chiredzi Regional Magistrate Court on Monday where they were found guilty and sentenced to an effective 144 years’ imprisonment each.
The court detailed how the criminals would block roads with boulders at night near Beitbridge and ambush stranded motorists at gunpoint.
The duo is said to have shot and injured two of their victims during one of the robbery cases.
The duo was arrested in Mwenezi after a tip-off.
