NKAYI – THE phased rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road is progressing well, with another 13-kilometre stretch set to be tarred.
The project, a critical component of efforts to modernise Zimbabwe’s road network using locally sourced resources, is being implemented in stages, aligning with the Government’s brick-by-brick mantra aimed at delivering tangible development.
Motorists using the route expressed appreciation for the ongoing works, highlighting the significance of the road to both public and commercial transportation.
“Repairs to this road are important as we use it frequently for both commercial and public transportation,” a motorist said.
This is an important route linking Bulawayo and Nkayi. In our province, it is a critical road and we thank the government for the ongoing work, a community member said.
Site foreman Mr John Rajah confirmed that preparations for the next tarring phase are well underway, with no major challenges encountered so far.
“We have started working to a point where we will put tar on the 13 kilometres that was given to us. We have not experienced any hiccups, and work is ongoing as you can see,” he said.
Speaking during a site visit, Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo, commended the contractor’s dedication and reaffirmed the government’s satisfaction with the progress made.
“We are seeing for ourselves the important work being done here. If the contractor remains on-site and continues working, we know this road will be completed,” he said.
Since its inception, the Second Republic has pursued a robust strategy to improve the country’s road infrastructure, focusing on harnessing local capacities and ensuring the sustainable transformation of key economic enablers.
The Bulawayo-Nkayi Road, a vital artery in Matabeleland North, stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to inclusive development and regional connectivity.
