THE 2025 Gwanda Mayor’s Cheer Fund has brought festive joy to more than 300 less privileged families in the town, with the municipality distributing food hampers and other essentials ahead of Christmas.

Beneficiaries, including elderly residents and people living with disabilities, received the assistance with gratitude.

“I am so grateful to the Mayor for this gift. My son has a disability, and this has brought a smile to his face. It is Christmas, and we will enjoy it like anyone else,” beneficiaries said.

In addition to food hampers, the initiative also raised school fees for more than 10 pupils for the 2026 academic year, providing critical support to families.

Mayor of Gwanda, Councillor Thulani Moyo, highlighted the growing community support for the initiative.

“Our cheer fund this year was a bit different. We are happy that it is getting support from the business community. We managed to raise more than USD$10 000. Next, we are targeting US$20 000 to increase beneficiaries.”

Municipality of Gwanda Town Clerk, Ms Priscilla Nkala, added, “As the Municipality of Gwanda, we are happy that the less privileged from the community received goodies, something to cheer about, sourced by the council.”

The Mayor’s Cheer Fund hampers comprised basic commodities and school fees, providing a festive boost to families and individuals with disabilities across the town.
