EFFORTS by the ruling ZANU PF party to empower women continue to gain momentum, with women in Masvingo Province becoming the latest beneficiaries of the Women’s League’s agricultural empowerment drive.

This Friday, the ZANU PF Women’s League commissioned a poultry incubator in Masvingo, aimed at boosting ongoing poultry production projects and encouraging economic self-sufficiency among women, particularly in rural areas.

Addressing women at the commissioning ceremony, the ZANU PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona, urged women to embrace empowerment initiatives being rolled out by the Second Republic.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa is determined to ensure empowerment of women hence the coming in of projects such as the ones we are launching today. Today women of Masvingo you have been given an incubator, let us take advantage of this to expand poultry projects in our communities and our lives will never be the same again,” she said.

The ZANU PF Women’s League in Masvingo appreciated efforts being made to empower women, pledging to fully utilise the new incubator for sustainable poultry projects.

“As women, we play an important role in ensuring our party and our country remains united. Our country can only remain united when we are food secure, hence we are leading in agriculture programmes. Our ZANU PF-led government continues to support us hence we are going to ensure all women benefit from this incubator especially those in rural areas, they really need these programmes,” ZANU PF Women’s League Masvingo Provincial Chairperson, Cde Alginia Mhlanga said.

In support of the initiative, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive development and economic empowerment.

“Here in Masvingo there are a lot of opportunities for women in various sectors of the economy and our goal remains to ensure equal opportunities for men and women. Again women empowerment is key in economic development,” he said.

Apart from poultry projects, women in Masvingo also benefitted from skills training programmes and agriculture initiatives, among others.
