PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Lieutenant General (Retired) Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe as the new Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, effective immediately.
This appointment follows the election of the former Minister, Kirsty Coventry, as the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on March 20, 2025.
Dr Rushwaya confirmed that Lieutenant General (Rtd) Sanyatwe, has been retired from the Zimbabwe National Army by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his capacity as the Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces will take over from Honourable Coventry.
In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya said acting in terms of section 108 of the constitution of Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa relieved Honourable Coventry of her ministerial duties following her deserved election to lead the IOC.
