THE Glenview community in Harare is the latest to benefit from government’s Digitruck programme which aims to propel digital empowerment in line with Vision 2030.

Glen View youths this Tuesday had an opportunity to experience government’s digital skills training programme which is set to empower residents through comprehensive digital training.

Youths have embraced this initiative, acknowledging how acquiring digital skills will help them navigate the ever-evolving job landscape.

“We are really happy that this initiative has been brought to us because we are going to have an upper hand digitally,” a beneficiary said.

“In school we were taught theory but now we are getting the practical side,” a student said.

“It is going to be easier now to look for jobs. We can now make our business proposals and even start business online,” a youth said.

The Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Honourable Tatenda Mavetera emphasised the importance of equipping youths with essential digital skills that will enable them to innovate and thrive in the digital space.

“Our aim is to build a technologically proficient society capable of maximising digital innovation. Young people will be given direction by having such skills and this initiative will be cascaded to every corner in Zimbabwe. We are not going to leave anyone behind,” Honourable Mavetera said.

Harare Metropolitan Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Charles Tavengwa and ZANU PF candidate for the Glen View South by-election Cde Tsitsi Tawomhera concurred the initiative will go a long way in empowering youths.

“This is a fulfilment of what we envision for our young people. We target to at least train 150 000 youths in Harare,” Senator Tavengwa said.

“As a party, we guarantee such developments that benefit communities. More of such projects will be introduced because we understand that we are living in a technologically advanced world and so youths should be equipped with relevant skills,” Glenview South ZANU PF Candidate, Tsitsi Tawomhera said.

The Digital Skills Training Programme which is being conducted through Digitrucks will be rolled out to all provinces, with the government initiative set to ensure the citizenry participates in the global digital economy.
