HIGHLANDERS Football Club have appointed South African coach Thabo Senong as their new head coach, bringing clarity to weeks of speculation surrounding the leadership of one of Zimbabwe’s most storied football institutions.
The Bulawayo giants confirmed the appointment in a statement, announcing that Senong will be assisted by former Bosso striker Mkhokeli Dube, whose return to the club adds a familiar presence to the technical bench.
Senong arrives with extensive experience in African football, having previously worked with the South African senior national team, the South Africa Under-20 side, and the Lesotho national team. His appointment signals Highlanders’ intention to stabilise and rebuild following an underwhelming campaign that ended with the departure of Pieter de Jongh at the close of last season.
The club expressed confidence that Senong’s continental exposure, combined with Dube’s deep understanding of the club’s traditions and expectations, will provide a solid foundation for renewed competitiveness in the upcoming season.
The appointment ends sustained speculation that had linked former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari with the post, as the Bosso executive opted for a coach with proven experience at national team level.
Senong now faces the task of assembling a competitive squad and restoring consistency as Highlanders prepare for the new Premier Soccer League season.
