FOR the first time in history, women’s football will take centre stage during this year’s Independence Day celebrations, with a highly anticipated showdown between Herentals Queens and Black Rhinos Queens scheduled for this Thursday in Gokwe Nembudziya.
The match will take place at the Gokwe Nembudziya Open Grounds after the Children’s Party, marking a major milestone in the growing recognition of women’s sport in the country.
The two powerhouse teams, reigning Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League champions Herentals Queens and last season’s runners-up Black Rhinos Queens, promise an exciting clash.
The sides last met in a league encounter where Herentals Queens emerged victorious with a 3–1 win.
As Independence Day celebrations continue to expand in scope and inclusivity, the addition of a women’s football match highlights the progress and prominence the women’s game is achieving across Zimbabwe.
The 2024 Zimbabwe Women Premier League champions will look to prove their mettle again, while last season’s runners-up Black Rhinos Queens aim to bounce back and show their determination.
