OVER 500 students graduated with various diplomas and certificates at Tabudirira Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Mutoko this Wednesday, amid calls for graduates to be ready to make a meaningful contribution to the economy.

The graduating students drawn from all seven VTCs from Mashonaland East Province were awarded certificates and diplomas in various disciplines.

“I am happy and looking forward to opening my restaurant. I graduated as the best student in hospitality and I want to encourage our youths out there to consider vocational training,” a graduate said.

“After being awarded a wheelbarrow and spirit level, I have been given tools of the trade as a graduate of bricklaying,” another noted.

Government emphasised the critical role played by vocational skills in the economic development of the nation.

“With the transition to NDS2, VTCs are expected to take a leading role in digitalisation, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind. To our graduates, the skills and knowledge you have acquired are vital to national development. I challenge you to apply these skills deliberately and meaningfully for the benefit of our country,” the Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Honourable Kuda Mupamhanga said.

“Through the revolutionary Education 5.0 model, the graduates have become problem solvers, identifying challenges in their communities and crafting solutions. They are entrepreneurs, understanding that a skill is not for employment, but for creating employment,” Director Finance, Administration, and Human Resources at the institution, Douglas Dzukwa added.

Outstanding graduates received trophies and start-up prizes.
