Healthcare services are set to improve in the Midlands Province after government commissioned utility vehicles in a move set to address transport challenges in the health sector.

The service vehicles are set to add on to the existing fleet as the Second Republic continues with its development mantra meant to ensure that communities get the necessary assistance.

Acting Midlands Provincial Medical Officer Dr Reginald Mhene said, “We are very grateful to our visionary leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa for continuing to show us love. Work is difficult where tools of trade are scarce. We have been receiving a lot of support from the government and all thanks to our President. The vehicles will enable our district doctors to access the local clinics and provide the much needed expertise in health care delivery system and as such we have moved a gear up in terms of addressing some of the challenges in our jurisdiction.”

Government says it will continue to implement people centred projects to attain an upper middle income society by 2030.

“I applaud the Second Republic under the results-oriented and people-centric leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa for implementing the devolution and decentralisation agenda which empowers communities and their local leadership to harness heritage-based human and natural resources endowments and allows for local decision making guided by the mantra Nyika inovakwa igotongwa igonamatirwa nevene vayo. In this regard, the Midlands province highly commends decentralisation of services by the Health and Child Care Ministry that has accelerated provision of accessible, quality and affordable medical services to communities.

“To this end, I commend the Provincial Medical Director for ensuring equitable health services targeting marginalised communities as our clinics now receive regular visits by doctors, opening up to medical outreach programmes by companies, churches and development partners, adhering to decentralised recruitment of student nurses and promoting the new dispensation’s whole of government, economy and society approach in the provision of health infrastructure and equipment,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said.

The inception of the Second Republic has witnessed massive development in terms of economic and social services in previously marginalised communities as government has adopted the leaving no-one and no place behind philosophy.
