THE government has pledged to prioritise empowerment of women and people with disabilities in the 2024 national budget.
As the nation eagerly awaits the 2024 national budget which will be presented on Thursday next week, government has promised a fiscal policy anchored on the thrust of leaving no one and no place behind.
Women and people with disabilities spoke on their expectations at a public engagement initiated by the Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube in Bulawayo this Thursday.
“We are so grateful to the government for thinking of us and including us in its plans,” said one of the women in business.
Another added, “We applaud the government for its thrust towards women empowerment and empowerment of the disabled, once you empower a woman you empower the nation.”
“We are really happy that government plans to make wheel chair imports duty free because it’s so hard to get wheel chairs for us into the country,” said a person with disabilities.
Professor Ncube reiterated that the 2024 national budget will prioritise vulnerable groups including women.
“The national budget that I am going to pitch on the 30th will be inclusive of ensuring that people living with disability import wheelchairs duty free along with duty free creams for people living with albinism. This is government’s effort to ensure that we leave no one and no place behind as we move towards development of our country,” he said.
The national budget is expected to take the country on a growth trajectory, as Zimbabwe aims to achieve an upper-middle income society by 2030.
