Govt commended for prioritising traffic safety in major road projects

GOVERNMENT has been commended for prioritising traffic safety by incorporating major road projects with appropriate safety features for all road users and reduce potential traffic accidents.

The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe Managing Director Mr Munesu Munodawafa commended government for incorporating safety features on its major roads projects to avert potential human and traffic crashes.

He was speaking at the commissioning of one of the bridges of the Mbudzi Interchange in Houghton Park in Harare.

“This bridge has a walkway for pedestrians something the government has considered enough in order to avoid road deaths on these crossings. Many of the country’s road projects and bridges are being designed with these safety features something we commend government for.”

Mr Munodawafa also revealed his organisations traffic safety campaign plans ahead of the festive season.

“Last year, hundreds of people perished on the country’s roads and many got injured due to road traffic accidents. We are prepared this season to increase awareness through planned traffic safety campaigns to reduce carnages”

The Traffic Safety Council has targets to reduce road carnages and deaths which are usually high during the festive season.

The council recently participated in joint traffic safety campaigns in Musina, South Africa in order to increase awareness on road safety.
