GOVERNMENT has intensified construction and rehabilitation of urban roads, with the project moving to high density suburbs in Harare.
The Second Republic has put infrastructure development on top of its agenda and attention has been directed towards road rehabilitation and construction which are at various stages.
Harare has become a construction site with several roads, including those in high density suburbs getting attention, much to the delight of residents.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Honourable Felix Mhona disclosed that they will soon move to other urban centres across the country.
“You have seen that we are almost in each and every corner of the city. But what it signifies is that as the Second Republic, when we say we want robust and vibrant infrastructure, this is what we are doing. Let me also hasten to say to the people of Zimbabwe, the patience that we also require from you. Others are saying, why are we rehabilitating and attending to good roads? But we know that we need to continuously maintain our roads, so you will see us doing asphalt overlay in some of the sections. We will be rehabilitating some of the sections. But the good thing above all is that at the end of the day, we need to make sure that after Harare, we also have other cities,” he said.
Government is also considering public private partnerships to ensure all roads are attended to for the benefit of the citizenry.
“I am happy as a ministry that we are demonstrating and showcasing to the people of Zimbabwe that when we say we have to develop and build our own country, this is precisely what we are doing. But let me also hasten to thank His Excellency, our great leader, Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, our visionary, who has made us, in terms of deliberating and delivering as a ministry, easier, where we are just following in his footsteps,” he added.
The road construction activities in and around Harare have created employment opportunities for hundreds of people which is key towards attaining an upper middle income society by 2030.
