Goal drought deepens for Manica Diamonds, Triangle

JUST four matches into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, early warning signs are already emerging at the bottom of the table, with several teams struggling to find form.

The FIFA international break has provided a timely pause for reflection, but for some clubs, the statistics paint a concerning picture.

Manica Diamonds are yet to register a point and remain without a goal this season. The Mutare-based side has conceded eight goals in four matches, underlining problems at both ends of the pitch.

It is a similarly bleak outlook for Triangle United, who are also without a point or a goal, leaving both sides rooted at the foot of the standings.

Triangle narrowly avoided relegation last season by a single point, and unless results improve quickly, they risk being drawn into another survival battle.

Newcomers Agama have also found life in the top flight challenging. They have managed just one draw, scoring two goals while conceding seven in four matches, exposing defensive frailties.

TelOne are another side surprisingly in early trouble, with just two points to their name. However, given the strength of their squad and a fifth-place finish last season, they are expected to recover.

Fellow newcomers FC Hunters are yet to score but have shown defensive discipline, recording three clean sheets and three draws before suffering defeat to Scottland.

Led by veteran coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera, FC Hunters have demonstrated organisation at the back, though their attacking struggles remain a concern.

In a league where margins are tight and consistency is crucial, slow starts often prove costly. History in the Premier Soccer League suggests that teams who falter early face an uphill battle to recover.

The international break offers struggling sides a chance to regroup, make tactical adjustments, and potentially strengthen their squads with the transfer window still open.

While the season is still in its infancy, the warning signs are already flashing for several clubs, and their response in the coming weeks could shape the trajectory of their campaigns.
