THE use of social media in advocating for girls’ education will be under the spotlight when the African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (African Union CIEFFA) media conference begins in Nairobi, Kenya this Thursday.
More than 20 journalists are in Nairobi for the conference on promoting education for the girl child.
Some of the issues expected to be discussed include challenges in sharing gender-related stories and the use of social media in advocating for girls education.
The conference is being held as part of the activities linked to the 2024 African Union Focus on education and sharing information on the #AfricaEducatesHer campaign at local and national level.
It also comes after the July first African Union (AU) Pan African Conference on Girls and Women’s Education held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Organised by the African Union CIEFFA, the media capacity session is being held under the theme, “Leveraging the media role in promoting inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning for African Girls and women through the #AfricaEducatesHer Campaign.”
Journalists attending the media session include those from host country Kenya, Niger, South Africa, Lesotho, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has made significant strides in the education sector with girls and boys getting equal opportunities.
